SUMTEQ GmbH

SUMTEQ GmbH, based in Cologne, was founded in 2014. Using an innovative and patented production process, SUMTEQ is the first company in the world to develop polymer nanofoams with pores in the micron and submicron range for the production on an industrial scale. The foams offer a unique combination of material properties enabling a highly efficient insulation performance. The major mid-term targets are the commercialization of these unique foams and the expansion of the technological advantage in the following years.

Lactips S.A.

Specialising in the production of a water-soluble plastic that leaves behind no traces in the environment, Lactips is a French company founded in 2014. Based in Saint-Paul-en-Jarez (in France’s Loire department), the company was founded by Marie-Hélène Gramatikoff, a plastics engineer and company strategy specialist, and Frédéric Prochazka, PhD, a professor at the Université de Saint-Etienne.

With its patented technology, which uses natural proteins (caseins) as its raw material, Lactips focuses on manufacturers aiming to develop new products or take on new markets using a clean, biodegradable plastic that’s friendly to consumers and the environment.

There are numerous possible industrial applications since the Lactips technology is: water-soluble, biodegradable, mass-producible, print-ready, and edible, and also has strong barrier properties (to oxygen, fats, and mineral oils).

Sunfire GmbH

Sunfire strives to become the leading European manufacturer of electrolysers and by this a key player in the field of renewable hydrogen, gases and fuels. Sunfire develops and manufactures steam-electrolysers (SOEC). They produce hydrogen or syngas using renewable electricity. Hydrogen can be used in industrial applications, e.g. refineries and steel plants, without further processing. Syngas can be converted to “e-fuels” and “e-gases” via synthesis processes to substitute crude oil or natural gas. The reverse process of the electrolysis, the high-temperature fuel cell (SOFC), complements Sunfire’s product offering. High-temperature fuel cells are used to produce power and heat particularly efficiently based on cogeneration in residential buildings or remote locations.

QNAMI

Qnami is a high-tech company and start-up from the University of Basel, Switzerland. By combining quantum technologies with the unique properties of synthetic diamonds, we are able to design and produce non-invasive sensors with the world’s best sensitivity.

Li.plus GmbH

The core competence of Li.plus GmbH, which was founded in October 2016, is the commercial exploitation of a rapid battery test procedure developed as part of university research and the associated know-how.

In addition, the company has an extensive base of detailed battery diagnostic data and years of experience in conducting battery tests. These building blocks form the basis for consulting services and customer support for technical development tasks in the field of battery storage. Li.plus GmbH's reference customers include German automotive OEMs, as well as Tier-1 and Tier-2 suppliers. Due to the innovative strength of the new process, the StartUp was awarded, among others, the Innovation Prize of the Technical University of Munich, as well as the Science4Life Prize. The young company is supported by EXIST Forschungstransfer of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

Toxys BV

Toxys is global leading expert that develops and offers a broad spectrum of unique animal-free laboratory tests for the safety assessment of novel medicines, chemicals, cosmetics and food. We are experts in the fields of genotoxicity, developmental toxicology and mechanistic toxicity testing. We develop assays with the focus on understanding the mode-of-action of toxic compounds. Our ToxTracker® assay accurately identifies genotoxic compounds, ReproTracker® detects developmental toxicity and the ToxProfiler™ assay provides a broad toxicity profile of compounds. Our unique assays provide relevant information to avoid compounds failing at a late stage of development due to unforeseen toxicity.

We aim to bring information to our customers that is essential to make informed decisions on which compounds to progress in drug/compound development, thereby contributing to the development of better medicines and products and to reduce animal testing. Every novel chemical compound that is developed by pharmaceutical, chemical, cosmetics or food companies has to be rigorously tested for human health hazards before being considered safe for marketing. Current in vitro toxicity tests, which are an essential part of compound risk assessment, often suffer from a low predictive value and lack the possibility to provide insight into the mode-of-action of toxic compounds. To address these unmet needs, Toxys offers a diverse portfolio of in vitro assays that provide mode-of-action information on toxic compounds and provide information relevant to human health.

The assays are used for early compound screening, follow-up testing and mode-of-action assessment, potency ranking and chemical read-across and are particularly useful in weight-of-evidence (WoE) and adverse outcome pathway (AOP) approaches for chemical safety assessment. Toxys is internationally recognised for its scientific expertise, high-quality results and responsiveness.
