It was back in 1949 when young Cesare and Piera Zocchi started manufacturing varnishes in a small workshop in Milan. Very quickly the company began to specialise in the manufacturing of wood varnishes. The considerable development of the furniture industry allowed the company to grow rapidly, such that the business was moved to Saronno in 1952. A few years later constant market success led to the need to move the production facilities to a new plant and so the business moved to Settimo Milanese in 1959. Continual expansion allowed the company to develop significantly, and in 1972 it became necessary to give free rein to increased production needs, with the purchase of land in Bareggio where the initial core of the present manufacturing works was established. With a watchful eye on continued progress in chemistry, NUOVA S.IV.A.M. took advantage of many innovative aspects and directed their research towards new technologies. In this way in 1973 the company began to flank their traditional production of wood varnishes with varnishes for plastics, which exhibited considerable development in just a few years.
